Flower Power: Discover
Central Park in Spring

The days are getting longer, the winter coats have been sent to the dry cleaner and Mother Nature is calling on the jasmine, forsythia, lilacs, daffodils, tulips, and cherry blossoms to dazzle us in Central Park, the most photographed urban park in the world.  Even we jaded New Yorkers slow down and soak in the view with awe.

This winter we had a near record snow fall, but it was also the warmest on record in Central Park, making for an especially “insta-friendly” spring flower bloom. Those in the know in the concrete jungle of Manhattan are wise to the fact that the second and third floors at The Shops at Columbus Circle offer a perfectly lit sweeping vista of Central Park. Add that to your list of must-dos when out-of-town guests come calling!

Here’s another insider tip: The Central Park Conservancy Bloom Guide tracks the flowers and buds – all 200 plus species –  so you know exactly where to go in the 843-acre park to be one with the living colors of nature.

While you can curate a picnic lunch at Whole Foods and hit the park with a good friend or a good book, there is always the option of treating yourself to the Paris- inspired Bouchon Bakery while enjoying the view from the inside. It’s a great way to start or cap off the perfect day or weekend.
